This track was written in reflection on BLMTO's (Black Lives Matter, Toronto) Tent City, which occupied the site of Toronto Police Headquarters, and evoked awareness of countless other actions taking place across the continent in response to police oppression. It is excerpted from a longer piece called Sound of the Beast which further examines this and proximate themes. It is on is the latest in a trajectory of resistence through the arts which is my career practise.
Donna-Michelle St. Bernard, aka Belladonna the Blest, is an emcee, playwright, administrator, agitator. Currently: emcee-in-residence at Theatre Passe Muraille and playwright-in-residence at lemonTree creations, working on Sound of the Beast and B-Side respectively. Her work has been performed at Impact Festival (Kitchener), Western Canadian Music Awards (Moosejaw), Bayimba International Festival (Kampala, Uganda), Summerworks Theatre Festival (Toronto), Arcane Freestyle Competition (New Jersey), Vancouver Folk Festival and Scream in High Park Literary Festival.
