An Open Letter to President Donald J. Trump by Matthew Foley

by Leslie Anne Mcilroy

(With Apologies to Walt Whitman)

O Captain! my Captain! our fear         is done,

                                       I hear the people
                                                                    grim and daring;

                                         bleeding drops of red,

O Captain! my Captain!
                for you the flag is flung

                             the swaying mass, their         faces turning;

                                     It is some dream
                                                fallen cold and dead.

My Captain
                does not feel
The ship                                                                      closed and done,
From fear           the victor     comes

                                          I     mourn
                                                        my Captain lies
