Hong Kong Booksellers Abducted to Mainland China by Sherry Rind

by Leslie Anne Mcilroy

The book you picked at the Hong Kong airport
is forbidden.
The man who edited the book
has been spirited
beyond the curtain, his voice lingering
as at a séance.
Then another. And another.
The editor, the booksellers—
as if taking the men
and locking them in the new Forbidden City
will make the words disappear
as if words are not wind.
